Coir Runners

The "KO" in DEKOWE stands for "Kokos", meaning Coir!

That's Absolutely True!

The "KO" in DEKOWE actually stands for "Kokos", meaning "coir", the fiber from the outer part of a coconut. We were founded in 1887 as the "Deutsche Kokoswebereien.", the "German Coconut Weaving Mills". Coir carpets and runners were the affordable for ordinary people. Being robust and durable, they were also used in the newly emerging factory halls of the upcoming Industrial Revolution.

Coir runners can be laid in hallways and on stairs, where it significantly reduces impact noise. That's why we donated this beautiful red matting to the church in our neighborhood, which you can see in the following photo.

Natural Fibers

The coir fibers come from the outer shell of the coconut. They are wood-like, durable, hollow fibers that are twisted into strong yarns and then woven into a herringbone pattern for example.

Optional Rubber Edge

We offer to border the short sides (cut ends) of the runner with a rubber edge that can withstand even heavier loads, for example from rolling suitcases or serving trolleys.

Optional Latex Backing

For increased slip resistance, we offer the option of having the coir runner fitted directly with a latex backing.
